The Random Magickian
By: Fr. Dagaz [580] 3* & Sr. Necheshyra [18] 3*
This is a ritual series much different than you are likely accustomed to. It was inspired by the book; "The Dice Man", by Luke Rhinehart. This is the basic ritual. There is also an advanced ritual and a full monasticism in the series.
The rationale behind these actions is complex at best. Surely, when discussing Chaos, we are discussing potential or the unmanifest. Therefore actualizing this potential through ritual (bringing order or definition to Chaos) is a process we can duplicate on a microcosmic level. The dice, then, represent potential. When the dice are rolled, a definition occurs. With each successive roll, the definition is enhanced until a plausible, clear course of action is obvious. The magickian should enter into this exercise with an open mind and no predetermined formulation how the exercise will proceed.
Those who read "divination" into the casting of the die sell themselves short. We encourage the magickian to remove all spiritual premise of "consulting the dice" and view this as a chain of completely random events, over which the magickian and any other perceived spiritual force has no influence. The magickian places hirself at the whim of the die. The die has no intelligence. There is no governing egregore over the die. It leaves the magickians hand and becomes Schrödinger’s cat until it falls to rest.
The benefits gained from such exercises are numerous. At the most basic level, this exercise encourages spontaneous and open handed feats of magick – skills often neglected through traditional courses of magickal study. In fact, to the magickian who becomes proficient with these stylings, a new multiverse of magick exposes itself – that which is free and unbounded – gone are the accouterments which trap others and in their place is a deep ocean of creativity. At the most advanced level, these exercises allow the magickian to free hirself from the binding of commitment and expectation, moving freely – unencumbered and daring, with complete confidence. It is in this realm of magick that Chaos incarnates.
Instructions and explanations of/for this exercise are intentionally brief, keeping in line with the general mode of operation.
THE COVENANT OF THE DIE
Before beginning this exercise, you must first make a covenant. It is improperly called the covenant of the die, because you do not truly covenant with the die – but with yourself. It happens in two parts.
1. That you will do anything the die says. Make sure you never list an option you are unwilling to perform, although advanced practitioners use antinomian and anathemic options to challenge themselves.
2. That you will, IMMEDIATELY upon completion of the roll, begin the task. Do not give yourself time to ponder or consider. Just do.
