The term Sex Magic(k) causes just as much confusion as any other occult term, so
I would like to identify some of the several different strands of magical
practice lumped together.
1 RESULTS SEX MAGIC
In these practices either the orgasm alone or the processes before and after are used as the charging energy/mechanism to actualise a desired result.
1.1 The most common form in Chaos Magic is the AOS method of creating a sigil before the act, staring at it at the moment of orgasm, destroying the sigil and then attempting to forget the entire process. Advantages are that it often works spectacularly well, and does not need a partner. Disadvantages are mainly that with more than one person either only one person charges the sigil or simultaneous orgasm is attained (otherwise the second person to cum finds that the sigil has been destroyed!) I would personally advise that in couple/group sex magic each participant works on creating the sigil.
1.2 Using orgasm to charge a talisman removes the problem of the destroyed sigil, since the talisman is intended to be worn.
1.3 Using orgasm to charge a fetish, idol or other physical medium for use in later rituals which themselves may or may not have a sexual element.
2 SEX RESULTS MAGIC
In these practices any magical act can be used to obtain sexual favours, whether or not the practice itself has any sexual element except the result.
2.1 Practices aimed at getting one or more sexual partners who are not specified.
2.2.1 Same, but aimed at one or more particular, named people, and
2.2.2 Practices aimed at getting existing lover(s) to participate in sexual acts they have hitherto refused. Both of these are often held to be morally objectionable.
3 RESULTS SEX MYSTICISM
These are practices where states of consciousness obtained during sexual acts are used to obtain magical results.
3.1 Blisswork. Here the moment of orgasm is extended either just before or during male and/or female orgasm, or mutliple female orgasm is 'strung together', or valley orgasm is obtained. The loss of ego during this process is the immediate result desired with various benefits expected from continual practice.
3.1.1 Blissful masturbation.
3.1.2 What is usually referred to as 'Tantra', where two people work together for this purpose.
3.1.3 Where one partner guides the other into such a state, the theory behind sacred prostitution (if not always the practice) in various cultures.
3.2 Invocation. Here deities are invoked into the participant(s), usually at the moment of orgasm although various rites may be performed before and/or afterwards concerning the deities so invoked.
3.2.1 Inspiration. The invoked deity fills the mind with information during the ego-loss of orgasm. Particularly useful for solo practitioners.
3.2.2 Embodiment. The participants invoke the deities into either themselves or each other before the rite and then allow the deities to enjoy lovemaking, bestowing benefits either general or specified.
3.2.3 Wiccan 3rd degree, in which 3.2.2 is performed but the deities mysteriously decide to say and do exactly what is already written in the Book of Shadows.
3.2.4 Evocation. In this one or more person is possessed as a result of the working and then gives information, charges talismans etc. before being allowed to depart.
3.2.5 The Voudon experience, where people possessed during non-sexual rites demand sex of other participants.
4 SEXUAL ALCHEMY
In these practices the sexual process is held to make physical changes to either the material body or various systematised 'astral' bodies. I won't enumerate the different systems, but draw out the three main elements.
4.1 Bio-electric Alchemy. In these practices the process of sex is ritualised and the orgasmic OR NON-ORGASMIC result is held to have energised various bodies. This can be identical with 3.1.2 as regards practice.
4.2 The Alchemy of sexual fluids
4.2.1 The resulting fluids released during the sexual act are ingested, sometimes including menstrual blood, as a general panacea.
4.2.2 The fluids are collected and used later in the preparation of various medicines, powders etc.
4.2.3 Some people actually believe that using certain fluids as a perfume or poison can be an aphrodisiac, gaining sexual favours.
5 SEXUAL DE-PROGRAMMING
In these practices the performance of various acts are used to break down mental blocks.
5.1 Cultural de-programming. In these practices acts considered taboo by society are enacted to separate the participants from identification with that society.
5.2 Habit breaking. Initiates are required to perform acts that they personally find objectionable in order to expand theiur horizons. This might include new prohibitions as well, such as demanding a period of celibacy or refraining from particular habitual acts.
5.3 Sexual exploitation. The formation of a cult with the object of gaining sexual favours from disciples using 5.1 and/or 5.2 as an excuse.
In our society it is almost inevitable that outsiders will see all of the above as being a front for 5.3. It is also almost inevitable that people deciding to participate in any of the above, if they are honest, will suspect others of 5.3 intentions, and if they are very honest, themselves too. This is because 'wanting sex for its own sake' is still seen as bad, let alone 'and with as many people as possible'.
